the ladybug hustles right

to left across the sidewalk
departs the cherry’s shadow

to pass into the madrone’s
shadow it takes many steps

to cross the white sunlit patch
between each shaded margin

scarlet wings describe blessings
of practice scripture outlined

with black punctuation this
must account for one lifetime
